Services

Design, analysis, prototypes, molds, reverse engineering.

Clear goals. Clear communication. Guidance from the first conversation to the finished part.

Design

Plastic part design and FEA

From a sketch or a sample to CAD you own. Designed for the process that will make it.

  • Concept, CAD and drawings
  • Design for 3D printing, injection molding, rotational molding, thermoforming or profile extrusion
  • FEA where the load matters
  • STEP, STL and PDF drawings delivered
  • Quoted per job before work starts

Prototypes

3D-printed prototypes

FDM for functional parts. SLA for fine detail and smooth surfaces. Check fit and function on a real part first.

  • FDM: PLA, PETG, TPU, ASA, PA and engineering filaments
  • SLA resin for detail, finish and molds
  • One-offs and short runs
  • Light assembly and fabrication

Injection molding

Prototype molds for injection molding

Parts designed for molding. An SLA-printed mold. A short run of molded parts in the production resin. Prove the design before steel tooling.

  • Moldable part design: draft, walls, radii, gates
  • Printed cavity and core
  • Molded samples in the real material
  • Notes for the toolmaker

Reverse engineering

3D scanning and reverse engineering

Send the part or your scan data. Get back clean CAD with real features. Modify it, print it or mold it.

  • Scan-to-CAD with real features, not a mesh
  • Fit-checked against the original
  • Improvements designed in
  • Drawings for a machine shop or molder

How it works

One engineer. One clear path.

  1. Tell me what you needUse the quote form. A sketch, a photo, a sample part or just a description to get started. No CAD required.
  2. Scope and quoteYou get questions or a written quote within two business days. It states the work, the cost and the date.
  3. Design and reviewYou review the CAD and approve it before anything is built.
  4. Prototype and approvePrinted parts in hand. Or a printed mold and molded samples. Nothing goes to a run until you have held it.
  5. DeliverFiles, parts, drawings and notes for the next shop. Everything you paid for is yours.

Who this is for

  • Inventors and startups with a product idea and no plastics engineer.
  • Small manufacturers and shops that need a fixture, a housing, a replacement part or a short run.
  • Engineers and designers who need extra hands on a part, a mold, an analysis or a scan.

Medical, military and food-contact work is accepted. Qualification, testing and regulatory compliance stay with you.

How this compares

A one-engineer shop. An online print platform. A design firm.

All three are legitimate. They fit different jobs.

Nick Van Watermeulen, industrial engineer.

I'm a process person at heart and enjoy building standalone systems such as business communication workflows, MRP, shop-floor layouts, project management, value-stream mapping, and inventory management. My favorite thing to build is a system that runs on its own. Whether that's software, a production team, or an automated piece of equipment.

I've spent more than ten years in the plastics manufacturing industry working with plastics like HDPE, LDPE, XLPE, PA, ABS, TPE, TPU, PP and modifiers - across rotational molding, thermoforming, injection molding, profile extrusion, and additive systems such as FDM, SLS, and SLA. I also perform FEA. That work has included medical, military and food-contact applications.

MeulenWorks is where that experience goes to work for you: clear goals, clear communication, and guidance from the first sketch to an efficiently made finished part.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need a CAD file to start?

No. A sketch, a photo, a sample part or a description is enough. If you have CAD, send it. The design step gets shorter.

What do I get at the end of a design job?

Native CAD. STEP and STL files. A PDF drawing where one is useful. A short design note on the choices made. The files are yours.

How many parts can you make?

Printed parts from one to a few hundred. Quoted per tier so you see the price break. Printed molds are for short runs of molded parts. For thousands, I design for it and hand you off to a molder with the drawings ready.

Which materials?

FDM in PLA, PETG, TPU and engineering filaments. SLA resins for detail and for molds. Molded samples in the production resin you plan to use, within what a printed mold can handle.

Do you take medical, military or food-contact work?

Yes. Parts and designs are made to your specification. Performance in your application, validation, testing and regulatory compliance are your responsibility. That is written into every quote.

Do you do analysis?

Yes. FEA on parts where load, deflection or stress matters. It is quoted with the design work.

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes. Download the mutual NDA (PDF) or send yours. Signed copies come back within a business day.

How are jobs priced?

Design work is quoted per job from the anticipated hours. Parts and molds are quoted per quantity tier with a delivery date. Everything is written and agreed before work starts.

Where are you? Do you ship?
